Since then, eco-tourism has become a steadily growing desirable and well-accepted concept that is recognized worldwide. Today, it is a multi-billion dollar industry. 2,002, was declared the "Year of Eco-tourism" by the United Nations and a world summit was held where nations shared in developing the promotion and education of the concept. A business that can legitimately appeal to this highly marketable genre of tourism should, not only for the sake of increasing it's revenue but also for the very real positive results that Eco-tourism brings to a community and to the world. The benefits include environmental and historical preservation, support of local cultures and the education of humanity towards learning to appreciate: Unique ecosystems, What diverse cultures have to offer and How eco-tourism brings peace within communities and between travelers and locals. </FONT></div> <bR> <div>           My experience with eco-tourism started many years before the term eco-tourism was phrased as an environmentalist and as a person who sought natural areas for vacations especially those that had historical relevance and in areas that were not developed outside of what they naturally had to offer. Living in tourist destinations throughout Florida for most of my life spurred my interests and provided me with a local insight into the effects of tourism on an area. Studies and personal interests peaked my awareness of eco-tourism during the late 80s and early 90s. </div> <bR> <div>           I began my professional journey into the promotion and establishment of eco-tourism in 1992 by moving from Florida to Hawaii to operate tours on a 728-acre plantation owned by Senator Fong and his family. Besides running adventure tours on the property, I was also the property's Marketing Director. Using marketing skills developed over thirteen years while self-employed as a subcontractor in the construction industry, I developed all of the marketing materials and methods for the Adventure Center, a multi vendor operation that worked as a co-op on the land.
